JOB DESCRIPTION
GENERAL PURPOSE
Under the general supervision from the Parks and Recreation Grounds Superintendent, this labor position performs daily duties essential to the upkeep and operation of the Parks and Recreation facilities including the City’s sports facilities, parks, and trails.
PERFORMS MANUAL LABOR DAILY THAT MAY INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
- Maintains turf, parks, trails, and landscape maintenance by mowing, edging, fertilizing, cutting brush, maintaining flower beds, applying non-license chemicals and pruning trees and shrubs
- Repairs sports fields and sports courts; reconditions, preps, and maintains sports fields specifications
- Operates mowers, tractor, and gang mowers, aerifiers, and small power equipment such as weedeaters, blowers, chain saws, pole saws, and other tools, equipment and trucks used in parks and recreation maintenance, construction, and repair work.
- Performs routine irrigation maintenance, inspection, and repair
- Performs general cleanup of grounds and facilities, including restrooms, dugouts, and parking lots
- Inspects, cleans, and repairs tools and equipment related to assignment, including playground equipment, safety screens, nets, cages, benches, bleachers, and other related stadium equipment
- Provides support for sports tourism and special events, which include sport leagues, recreation leagues, tournaments, and community events
- Maintains regular attendance and punctuality
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Driver’s license
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Experience in landscape maintenance preferred
- Shifts are primarily 5:30-6am to 3-3:30pm Monday thru Friday
- May be required to work a variety of hours including weekends, holidays, and evenings
- Must have the ability to work and communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers, the public, and other departments and organizations
- Must have the ability to follow written and oral instructions
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the functions of this job.
- Requires the ability to work outside 95% of the time, in all types of weather conditions.
- While performing duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, sit, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with arms and hands. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
- While performing duties of this job, the employee works near moving mechanical parts or in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet in the office or moderately noisy when outside in the field.
