JOB DESCRIPTION

SUMMARY

Under the general supervision from the Golf Course Superintendent, this labor position performs daily duties essential to the upkeep and operation of the City of Pearl Municipal Golf Course.

PERFORMS MANUAL LABOR DAILY THAT MAY INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

• Mows greens and fairways; roughs, bunkers and tee areas; cleans and rakes sand bunkers; maintains ball washers and related facilities; changes cup and tee placements.
• Operates mowers, tractor, and gang mowers, aerifiers, and small power equipment such as weedeaters, blowers, chain saws, pole saws, and other tools, equipment and trucks used in golf course maintenance, construction, and repair work.
• Aerifies, seeds, top dresses turf and lays sod; plants and maintains bushes and flowers.
• Digs holes and trenches to maintain, repair, or construct irrigation and drainage lines
• Performs various landscape work including raking, digging, tree planting, pruning bushes, cutting brush, maintaining flower beds, and applying non-license chemicals.
• Litter pick-up and changing garbage liners.
• Raking leaves and setting golf course up for plan.
• Changing flag cups.
• Watering golf course manually where needed.
• Painting yardage markers.
• Loading and unloading supplies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Valid Mississippi Driver’s license
• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• Experience in landscape maintenance preferred
• Shifts are primarily 5:30-6am to 3-3:30pm Monday thru Friday
• May be required to work a variety of hours including weekends, holidays, and evenings
• Must have the ability to work and communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers, the public, and other departments and organizations
• Must have the ability to follow written and oral instructions

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the functions of this job.

• Requires the ability to work outside 95% of the time, in all types of weather conditions.
• While performing duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, sit, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with arms and hands.  The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

• While performing duties of this job, the employee works near moving mechanical parts or in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet in the office or moderately noisy when outside in the field.
