Public Works

The Public Works Department is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in the City of Pearl by providing the highest quality of public works services, facilities and infrastructure to meet the needs of the community.

Public Works is responsible for providing drinking water to residential and commercial customers as well as for the collection and disposition of storm water, wastewater, and solid waste. In addition, it is responsible for regulatory compliance and conservation. The department also is responsible for repairing City streets and street signs.

**POLICY CHANGE**

Limb and Leaf Pickup
Effective September 4, 2017 the City of Pearl will NO LONGER pick up limbs. Waste Management will pick up your yard waste on the last garbage day of the week.  “YARD WASTE” means all yard waste resulting from yard maintenance and including all wood products, tree trimmings, dead plants, dead trees or branches, or other similar materials having a length not longer than five (5) feet or a diameter not greater than eight (8) inches or not weighing more than 60 pounds.  Weeds, leaves, grass clippings, chips, shavings and sawdust or similar materials must be placed in bags and tied or placed in other Containers and not weighing more than 60 pounds. NOTE: NO LEAVES OR DEBRIS SHOULD BE PLACED IN ANY DITCHES AND BURNED.  According to the Storm Water Pollution Prevention Ordinance (Article 11 Section JJ)  NO TYPE OF LEAVES OR DEBRIS ARE TO BE PLACED INTO DITCHES OR DRAINS.

 

Ditching
The City of Pearl will clean out culverts and ditches when drainage of city streets is compromised. To report a problem, please call the Public Works Department at (601) 932-3520.
 

City Compactor
Bulky items such as furniture, appliances and similar items should be taken to the City Compactor at 201 Compactor Rd (601-932-9222) It is open every day from 8am to 5pm (closed on Sunday and Wednesday).  For items still in working condition, you may call Gateway Thrift Store (601-932-1668) or Goodwill Industries (601-664-3443) for pickup.  Tires, fuel containers, flammable liquids, limbs, paint and computers MAY NOT be dumped at the Compactor station.  Rates are as follows:

Waste Management Garbage Pickup
Each residential property owner is charged a monthly garbage fee. Pickup occurs twice a week, either Monday and Thursday or Tuesday and Friday depending on residential location. All garbage should be bagged or bundled for easy handling. Waste Management will NOT pick up furniture, appliances, and similar household items.  For issues with your garbage pickup, call Waste Management at 601 922 9647.
