Recreation and leisure activities for the young and old are plentiful in Pearl.
The City has 28 ball
fields and 2 gymnasiums for baseball, softball, basketball, and
soccer activities in addition to six 6 walking trails, picnics areas, and a beautiful
18 hole golf course.
It is the organizational purpose of the Department of Parks and Recreation and the
Department of Golf to provide the citizens of Pearl with a broad and comprehensive
selection of recreation programs and leisure activities to enhance the quality of
life within the community, to maintain a system of Parks and Recreational facilities
for its enjoyment and to continue to plan and develop future programs and activities
as area needs change.
Facilities include:
Center City Complex (Center City Drive) A softball complex, baseball, soccer, and
offices of the Parks and Recreation Department.
Pearl Activity Center (Old Boys Club) (Center City Drive) A Baseball complex, meeting
room, facilities and gymnasium.
Bright Park (Flynn Drive) A 2/3 mile physical fitness walking trail through nature
and picnic areas.
City Park (Corner of US 80 & Mary Ann Drive) A family recreation area which
includes, picnic areas, reserveable pavilion, children playground, tennis courts,
basketball court, and covered stage.
Jenkins Park (Old Whitfield Road) A family recreation facility, children's playground,
picnic areas, pavilion, ½ mile walking trail, and softball field.
Old Library Walking Trail (Old Brandon Road) A ¼ mile walking trail.
Henry F. Shepherd Field Walking Trail (Parkway Drive behind the Police Department)
a ¼ mile walking track around the old high school football field.
Center City Walking Trail (Center City Drive) A 1 mile walking trail winding through
the scenic wooded terrain.
Pearl Municipal Golf Course (Center City Drive) A beautiful
18 hole public golf course with a Club House and short order restaurant.
With all of these facilities, it is estimated that more than 2,000 will be involved
in organized sports activity throughout the City this year. The Softball Complex
at the Center City Park has been the site of several USSSA Regional and National
Tournaments.
